Description
The Bolt Stop Spring is a small, magnetic compression spring essential for the last-round hold-open feature on GSG-5 and GSG-522 rifles.
Physical Description & Appearance
– Size: Extremely small, often described as similar in diameter to the spring found in a standard Bic mechanical pencil.
– Material: Made of magnetic steel.
– Shape: A standard cylindrical coil spring designed to fit into a specific recessed groove.
Functional Role
– Last Round Hold Open: This spring provides the tension necessary for the bolt stop lever (Part #51) to engage the bolt after the final round is fired.
– Chambering: Without it, the rifle may fail to chamber a round from a fresh magazine after the bolt has been manually or automatically held open.
– Mechanism: It sits inside a groove in the receiver’s side, behind the breech housing. It ensures the bolt stop lever resets correctly and doesn’t engage prematurely or fail to engage when prompted by the magazine follower.
